London Fire Department Hosts Community Blood Drive, Kentucky Blood Center recruiting summer donors with a great reward

On Tuesday, June 22nd from 1 to 5 p.m. the London Fire Department is hosting a Community Blood Drive at 911 Fire Rescue Drive. The Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is recruiting donors this summer, which is typically a difficult time of year to keep blood on the shelves.

The KBC is the sole provider of blood products to many Kentucky hospitals. Local hospitals need approximately over 460 donors daily to meet their needs. The average donor gives only twice a year, although, if every donor gave three times a year – there wouldn’t be critical blood shortages.

The KBC will be on-site accepting donations. All who donate blood will be entered in a drawing to win a 2021 Toyota C-HR and in addition, all registered donors will receive a limited-edition KBC ballcap – while supplies last.

Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo ID and meet addition requirements. Appointments are preferred to ensure social distancing. Walk-ins are accepted as space allows. A face covering is required to donate if you are unvaccinated.

For more information about the blood drive or to schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800-775-2522.
